Advanced Thermal Treatment

IQ Energy delivers modular Advanced Thermal Treatment (ATT) solutions designed to help organisations reduce disposal dependence, recover value from residual streams and develop practical long-term treatment infrastructure.

Understanding Advanced Thermal Treatment

Advanced Thermal Treatment is becoming an increasingly important part of long-term residuals management.

As disposal costs rise, environmental expectations evolve and traditional disposal pathways become increasingly constrained, organisations are reassessing how difficult residual streams are managed.

Advanced Thermal Treatment (ATT), sometimes referred to as Advanced Thermal Conversion (ATC) or Carbonisation, is a broad category of thermal processing technologies that use elevated temperatures under carefully controlled operating conditions to transform difficult residual streams.

Depending on the technology selected, ATT may utilise pyrolysis, gasification, or combinations of both, together with downstream thermal oxidation and engineered emissions treatment.

Rather than representing a single technology, ATT encompasses a range of thermal conversion approaches designed around different feedstocks, project objectives and operating philosophies.

Why organisations are adopting ATT

  • Rising disposal and transport costs

  • Emerging contaminants and evolving regulation

  • Increasing environmental and community expectations

  • Long-term residual management resilience

  • Opportunities for resource recovery and decarbonisation

IQ Energy's Preferred ATT Platform

Hybrid Pyro-Gasification

IQ Energy's preferred Advanced Thermal Treatment platform combines controlled pyrolysis and controlled gasification within a single integrated process.

Rather than treating pyrolysis and gasification as separate technologies, Hybrid Pyro-Gasification combines the strengths of both within a complete engineered system developed for commercial infrastructure projects.

The platform integrates thermal conversion, high-temperature thermal oxidation, engineered emissions treatment and automated process control to provide a practical solution for difficult residual streams.

IQ Energy's Hybrid Pyro-Gasification technology is delivered through the commercial G-Series product family. Developed as modular Advanced Thermal Treatment infrastructure, the G-Series integrates thermal conversion, thermal oxidation, engineered emissions treatment and process automation within a single engineered platform designed for long-term commercial operation.

Why Hybrid Pyro-Gasification?

The G-Series Hybrid Pyro-Gasification platform reflects more than three decades of Advanced Thermal Treatment experience gained across over 30 thermal treatment projects involving biomass, industrial residuals and difficult waste streams.

Throughout the development, operation and commissioning of these projects, our technology team gained practical insight into the strengths and limitations of different thermal treatment pathways. Those lessons directly informed the development of the G-Series.

While Pure Pyrolysis remains the preferred solution for selected specialist applications, our engineers determined that Hybrid Pyro-Gasification provides the greatest operational flexibility and thermal efficiency across the municipal biosolids, industrial residuals and PFAS-impacted materials that define IQ Energy's core markets.

The result is a commercial platform engineered around real operating experience rather than a single thermal conversion philosophy.

Broad Feedstock Capability

Developed to process a diverse range of difficult residual streams using one common technology platform.

Improved Thermal Efficiency

For many high-moisture residuals, Hybrid Pyro-Gasification provides a more thermally efficient process, helping support integrated drying and reducing reliance on external fuel.

Pure Pyrolysis Where It Fits Best

Pure Pyrolysis remains available for specialist applications where project objectives favour carbon retention or other application-specific outcomes.

Understanding the G-Series

IQ Energy's commercial Hybrid Pyro-Gasification platform.

The G-Series is IQ Energy's modular product family, developed to apply Hybrid Pyro-Gasification across a wide range of residual treatment applications.

Designed for long-term infrastructure projects, each G-Series system combines thermal conversion, thermal oxidation, engineered emissions treatment and automated process control within a compact commercial platform. Individual systems are configured around project-specific feedstocks, treatment objectives and regulatory requirements.

While the previous illustration shows what the G-Series can process and the outcomes it delivers, the image below highlights how those functions are brought together within one integrated commercial platform.

Integrated Commercial Platform

Unlike systems where thermal conversion and emissions treatment are supplied as separate process packages, the G-Series integrates the primary reactor, thermal oxidation, emissions treatment and automated control within a single engineered platform.

This integrated approach simplifies project delivery, supports reliable commercial operation and provides flexibility to configure each installation around project-specific feedstocks, operating objectives and regulatory requirements.

One Platform. Multiple Capacities.

Modular infrastructure designed to grow with your project.

The G-Series has been developed as a modular product family that enables treatment capacity to be matched to the requirements of each project.

From smaller industrial facilities through to large municipal infrastructure, the same Hybrid Pyro-Gasification platform can be deployed as individual units or combined into larger treatment systems.

Every G-Series system is built on the same Hybrid Pyro-Gasification technology, allowing projects to scale while maintaining a common operating philosophy.

From Single Units to Large-Scale Facilities

The example above illustrates how multiple G-Series units can be combined to create larger treatment facilities while retaining the benefits of a modular platform. For high-moisture feedstocks, commercial drying technologies can be integrated upstream to provide a complete treatment solution.

Why Organisations Choose the G-Series

The G-Series has been developed around the practical requirements of commercial Advanced Thermal Treatment projects. Rather than focusing on a standalone reactor, IQ Energy has engineered a complete treatment platform designed to simplify deployment, support reliable long-term operation and adapt to a broad range of difficult residual streams

"Our objective is not simply to supply thermal equipment. It is to deliver complete Advanced Thermal Treatment infrastructure that can be deployed, operated and expanded with confidence.”

Pure Pyrolysis for Specialist Applications

A refined technology for selected project requirements

While the G-Series Hybrid Pyro-Gasification platform is IQ Energy's preferred Advanced Thermal Treatment solution for the majority of applications, our HTP-Series (a pure pyrolysis system) is available where project objectives require a different thermal conversion pathway.

Every project is assessed individually to determine the most appropriate Advanced Thermal Treatment solution based on feedstock characteristics, treatment objectives and long-term project outcomes.
